NFL teams provide depth charts to the media and on their websites, but it is hard to take them too seriously. While most of the starters are fairly obvious, teams often use the depth chart for purposes of obfuscation. Considering teams treat game plans and depth charts like state secrets, it’s not exactly shocking.
Which brings us to the Baltimore Ravens first depth chart of 2020. The team posted it to their website, and as noticed by Pro Football Talk, second round pick J.K. Dobbins is listed as the fourth running back. Mark Ingram tops the depth chart and is followed by Gus Edwards then Justice Hill then Dobbins.
A year ago, Mark Ingram led the Ravens running backs with 202 carries for 1,018 yards. Lamar Jackson led the team in rushing yards, while Gus Edwards served as a complement to Ingram — rushing 133 times for 711 yards. Justice Hill picked up 58 carries for 225 yards. It’s worth noting, Ingram sat out Week 17. In his stead, Edwards rushed 21 times for 130 yards and Hill rushed 10 times for 39 yards.
The team invested in Dobbins to complement and likely replace Ingram down the road as the starter. Last week, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Dobbins would probably have “a significant role,” according to reporter Jamison Hensley.
If you’re making fantasy football roster decisions, that is not super helpful. Dobbins is a no-brainer addition in dynasty leagues and bigger keeper leagues. However, for re-draft leagues it’s a little less clear. He’s currently going 88th overall as RB31. He’s worth a stash in re-draft leagues given the strength of the Ravens ground game, but it’s tough to tell how soon we’ll see him make a fantasy-relevant impact.
