It might be all academic on Monday for the TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club, as Dustin Johnson sits on a five shot lead after three rounds. He’ll just need to avoid a blowup tomorrow to take home the biggest cash prize in the sport, a $15 million check as the FedEx Cup champion.
Johnson entered at -10, two shots clear of the #2 player Jon Rahm who was at -8. The bottom five players in the field were given no extra strokes, so it was a nice advantage for the top players before the tournament began. But then Johnson went and shot the low round of the day on Saturday (alongside Daniel Berger) with a -6 64. And with that, it might be over.
There will be some knee-knockers tomorrow down the field as well, as the difference between second place and third place is what the winner makes in an average week on the PGA Tour, $1 million. DJ is at -19, and will play with Xander Schauffele who checks in at -14. Justin Thomas will also tee off at -14 in the group behind, with Jon Rahm at -13 with him. With this much cash on the line, every shot will be pressure packed for the players involved.
Here is the leaderboard for the final round of the 2020 TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
