Novak Djokovic disqualified from the US Open

It didn’t appear there was any intent, but the #1 player in the tournament was hitting a ball after what appeared to be an accident.

#1 seed Novak Djokovic has been disqualified from the US Open for hitting a line judge with a ball he was sending back to the ball person after serving.

He was trailing Pablo Carreño Busta 6-5 in the first set of their Round of 16 match.

Here’s the statement from the USTA:

We’re not sure what the rule here is, but the big favorite to win what is usually the last major of the year with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal both not participating is going home. And he’s going to lose all his prize money and be fined as well.

That’s one expensive mistake for The Joker, who has had a rough 2020 already. And it also prevents him from winning his 18th major, which would put him two behind Federer.
