Sports bettors are searching to identify the 2020 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year heading into the season. Last year, it was defensive end Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers to win the award. Looking ahead to this season, there is one clear favorite.
More than a quarter of the money is being bet on former Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young. Now lining up for the Washington Football Team, he is the favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year by DraftKings Sportsbook and sports bettors. He is listed at +200 to win the award, and 26% of the money is coming in on him along with 22% of the total bets.
Behind Young is former Clemson standout Isaiah Simmons, who was selected in the first round by the Arizona Cardinals. He is listed second by the oddsmakers to win it at +500, receiving 13% of the bets and handle.
Antoine Winfield Jr. is a longshot by oddsmakers as a safety for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but plenty of sports bettors seem to find value in him. The defensive back out of Minnesota is receiving 4% of the handle, which is sixth among defensive rookies. Despite the large amount of attention from sports bettors, he has the 11th highest odds according to oddsmakers at +3300.
On the other side, Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Kenneth Murray is currently listed with the fourth best odds among defensive rookies at +1100. He is only receiving 3% of the handle, which is tied for eighth.
New York Giants defensive back Xavier McKinney was receiving a great deal of attention from the betting public until he needed to have surgery on a broken left foot. He should return this season, but he will likely miss too much time to win the award.
