Two middleweights with impressive records take to the octagon on Saturday night when Andre Muniz takes on Bartosz Fabinski at middleweight as part of UFC on ESPN 9 live from Las Vegas.
Muniz is 19-4 with 15 career stoppages, and after winning his way into the promotion with two wins at Dana White’s Contender Series, he opened his UFC career with a unanimous decision over Antonio Arroyo. At age 30 from Minas Gerias, Brazil, “Sergipano” has won 13 of his last 14 fights. Though he landed less strikes in his only full UFC bout so far, he had three takedowns and two submission attempts.
Fabinski is 15-3, and 3-1 in the UFC so far. “The Butcher” is from Warsaw, Poland, and has won eight of his last nine fights. He took a 2.5 year sabbatical between 2015 and mid-2018, with his most recent fight coming in the Cage Warriors promotion because both he and opponent Darren Stewart are based in Europe. He defeated Stewart by unanimous decision, which is how he’s achieved seven of his 15 victories. In a UFC octagon he’s averaged a whopping 7.17 takedowns per 15 minutes of fight time, including 10 alone against Garreth McLellan in his first UFC bout in 2015.
