DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery ruled out for Week 4

Friday PM update: The Eagles have ruled out DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery for Sunday Night Football. J.J. Arcega Whiteside is doubtful, leaving Greg Ward as Philly’s only notable healthy receiver.

Friday morning update: Eagles coach Doug Perderson told reporters that he is “optimistic” DeSean Jackson would play against the 49ers in Week 4, per NBC Philly’s Dave Zangaro. But Zangaro goes onto say “ but (me here) he’s a 33 year old speed WR with a hamstring injury.” There is plenty of reason to have some reservations for Jackson against a good 49ers defense. Jackson doesn’t look like he will practice on Friday while Alshon Jeffery didn’t practice on Thursday is is likely to sit this week.

Thursday update: The Eagles returned to practice and they were without both DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery at practice. Additionally, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside (calf) and John Hightower (illness) were DNPs. That left Greg Ward as the only active roster wide receiver practicing.

The Philadelphia Eagles remain banged up at the wide receiver position heading into Week 4. DeSean Jackson did not practice on Wednesday and Alshon Jeffery is listed as limited as the team begins preparations to face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football.

Jackson injured his hamstring in Week 3 and did not return to the game. Jeffery had offseason foot surgery and has been slowly working his way back. He was a DNP the first two weeks and returned to practice last Thursday in limited fashion. He was limited again on Friday and remains as such this week.

The Eagles are already without Jalen Reagor due to a thumb injury. Greg Ward stepped up last week when Jackson went down, and would likely see the lion’s share of the targets in Week 4. Ward caught eight passes for 72 yards and a touchdown in the team’s tie with the Bengals. John Hightower and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside would get a boost in snaps if Jeffery is unable to go.
