Michael Thomas returns to practice but ruled out for Week 4

The Saints hope to get star wide receiver Michael Thomas back this week and his return to practice on Wednesday is a good sign for Week 4.

Friday update: The Saints have ruled Michael Thomas OUT for Week 4 vs. the Lions.

Thursday update: Thomas was once again listed as limited on the Saints’ Thursday injury report.

Wednesday afternoon update: Thomas was officially limited in practice, per The Athletic’s Katherine Terrell. This was expected for his first practice back. His participation could remain limited throughout the week and he could still play Sunday, but a full practice by Friday would be the best scenario for his return.

The New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas returned to practice on Wednesday, per Nick Underhill of Saints.com. Thomas has missed the last two games due to a high ankle sprain and Underhill said he “was moving well during the portion of practice open to the media.”

Thomas will likely get a limited practice designation for his first day back and then we’ll need to see how he progresses Thursday and Friday. There’s no doubt the team needs him back, as Alvin Kamara has been the lone constant on offense since Thomas was injured. A high-ankle sprain often takes longer than a couple weeks to heal, so he isn’t assured to play against the Lions this week, but this is a good start.
