What to do with Chris Carson, Carlos Hyde in Week 3 fantasy football

How will the Seahawks’ backfield perform against the Dallas Cowboys?

It’s a joy to watch Chris Carson run, because he does so with such ferocity and little abandon for his body. That may not be the most prudent way to play running back, but that’s how he plays it. It has come back to bite him at times; he has suffered a broken ankle and a fractured hip during his four-year pro career, but when he’s healthy, he is a tough guy to bring down and a very valuable fantasy commodity. That was the case in 2018 and 2019, when Carson was a top-15 back in each season. And with health still on his side as he enters a Week 3 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, Carson is on track toward a repeat in 2020.

Fantasy Football analysis: Seahawks RBs Chris Carson, Carlos Hyde

Carson hasn’t put up dazzling rushing stats through two weeks, but that’s mostly because the Seahawks have put the game in Russell Wilson’s hands, and he has responded by absolutely torching defenses. The good news for Carson is that he has been involved as a pass-catcher, hauling in all nine of his targets and scoring three times.

Hyde has given Carson a breather in each game, soaking up a handful of carries. But the 30-year-old has done little to convince anyone that he should receive a larger role. He’s also a complete non-factor in the passing game. Since Carson was coming back from hip surgery, the Seahawks were pretty cautious with him in Week 1. He played just 45% of the snaps then while Hyde took on 34%. But in Week 2 versus the New England Patriots, Carson was the clear lead dog; he saw 63% of the offensive snaps while Hyde saw just 24%.

The Dallas Cowboys limited Todd Gurley to just 61 yards on 21 carries last week, but that came after Malcolm Brown recorded 110 total yards and two touchdowns against that defense in Week 1. Overall, this is not a matchup from which to shy away. On the contrary, this game has the week’s highest over-under (55.5).

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

Carson is a solid RB1 who promises to be a dual threat yet again versus Dallas. He costs $6,600 in DFS. Hyde, with a price tag of $4,300, is a touchdown-or-bust proposition and should be avoided in all formats.
