New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has been one of the most consistent quarterbacks in the NFL in his illustrious career, but it appears like his decline could be cruel and unforgiving. Brees needs to show that he’s still got it against a 2-0 Green Bay Packers team in Week 3, and he might have to do it without Michael Thomas.
Fantasy Football analysis: Saints QB Drew Brees
Brees has hardly tried to stretch the field with his arm this season, even when he did have Thomas available in Week 1. The 41-year-old signal caller has heavily depended on Alvin Kamara to make plays out of the backfield so far, as there isn’t an established wideout he can trust as a No. 2 option. Jared Cook has been one of the more productive fantasy tight ends in the NFL in recent years, but he isn’t capable of doing the bulk of the work. Thomas is aiming to make a return in Week 3 after missing Week 2’s game with an ankle injury, but likely won’t be at 100 percent against the Packers’ Jaire Alexander.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Brees isn’t worth starting even if Thomas makes a return. He hasn’t shown any flashes that indicate he still has the ability to make big plays with his current personnel.
