Quite a few wideouts doubled down on their impressive Week 1 performances by having strong outings in Week 2. However, other players are still waiting to have breakout games in 2020. There are a lot of options to sort through ahead of Week 3, and we’ll go over some of the best receivers to play and fade in fantasy football here.
Wide Receiver Starts
DeAndre Hopkins, Arizona Cardinals vs. Detroit Lions
I’m a firm believer that Hopkins and Kyler Murray can be a dynamic duo in the NFL, and the small sample size we have to work with this season indicates that the two are set up to post solid fantasy stat lines all year long. Hopkins has caught 88 percent of the passes thrown his way so far and leads the NFL with 25 targets. He’s converted those opportunities into 22 receptions for 219 yards and a touchdowns. Murray should look for him early and often against the Lions’ injury-riddled secondary.
Amari Cooper, Dallas Cowboys vs. Seattle Seahawks
It’s easy to see why this matchup is desirable. Seattle has given up a league-high 832 passing yards. This is a dream matchup for Cooper, who caught 10 passes for 81 yards against Jalen Ramsey in Week 1 before torching the Falcons with nine receptions for 100 yards. Michael Gallup has been a bit of a disappointment this season, but Cooper is proving that he is the clear WR1 despite all the talent around him.
Wide Receiver Sits
T.Y. Hilton, Indianapolis Colts vs. New York Jets
Hilton only saw 58 percent of his team’s snaps in Week 2, which is strange for a WR1 that’s completely healthy. He’s only caught half of the passes thrown his way and doesn’t seem to have the best chemistry with Philip Rivers. There are plenty of safer options than Hilton available at wide receiver.
Henry Ruggs III, Las Vegas Raiders vs. New England Patriots
The Patriots haven’t been the best defense in the NFL this year, but it’s hard to see them being outdone by by a rookie wideout who has yet to get much going over the top. While Ruggs has tremendous speed, having him be get covered Stephon Gilmore and Jason McCourty isn’t ideal.
