In the third preliminary fight of the night, Juan Espino will take on Jeff Hughes in a heavyweight bout to help kick off UFC 253, which will be held live at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi this Saturday and available on pay-per-view.
Espino will enter with a 10-1 MMA record, 1-0 in the UFC via taking down Justin Frazier with ease. He had 18 more significant strikes and landed two takedowns, finishing him in the first round for the submission. He averaged 6.11 significant strikes with 95 percent accuracy in that bout.
He’ll be taking on the 32-year-old Jeff “Lights Out” Hughes, who is 10-3 record in MMA. His UFC record is less than impressive as he has one no contest and two losses, having had less significant strikes in all three bouts. In those three matches, Hughes did accrue over 30 minutes in the octagon and did last all 15 minutes in both of his losses.
Hughes has averaged 4.34 significant strikes per minutes with 51 percent accuracy. This is the second fight of the evening, and someone should walk out with their first win in the promotion.
