Tonight the UAB Blazers head about four hours south to Mobile to face the South Alabama Jaguars live on ESPN at 7:30 p.m. Both teams enter with 1-1 records, and both will start promising quarterbacks that have had early success as backups for the first time.

UAB beat Central Arkansas to open the 2020 college football season 45-35 before getting handled easily by Miami 31-14 two weeks ago. Redshirt freshman quarterback Bryson Lucero gets the start, filling in for an injured Tyler Johnston III who injured his shoulder in the loss to UM. So far this year Lucero is 11 of 21 passes for 138 yards, and one TD without an interception.

South Alabama also began its season on the opening Thursday night of college football season with a 32-21 win over Southern Miss, and got Golden Eagles head coach Jay Hopson fired shortly thereafter. The Jags then fell short in a 27-24 loss to Tulane at home on Sept. 12. USA has a new quarterback as well with Chance Lovertich starting over Desmond Trotter. In his two appearances so far, Lovertich is 20/32 for 311 yards, 3 TD’s and zero picks.
