3 teams that improved Super Bowl 55 odds the most heading into Week 3

Week 2 is a wrap, which means we have a new look at Super Bowl 55 futures odds. We break down three teams of note rising up the leaderboard.

NFL: New Orleans Saints at Las Vegas Raiders Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The landscape of the National Football League changes every week. Where we thought teams lined up before Week 1 can (and usually does) end up being completely different to where they actually end up come Week 17. But all teams are focusing on one goal, even if it calls for a season to be tanked in the meantime. Everyone is aiming for the Super Bowl. And that’s exactly what we’ll focus on here. Every week, I’ll highlight three teams that most improved their Super Bowl winning odds.

We’re through with Week 2 and we’re now headed into Week 3. Let’s get started. All odds via DraftKings Sportsbook.

Las Vegas Raiders (2-0, +4000)

Las Vegas always seems to wiggle its way into any conversation about sports betting, doesn’t it? In Week 2, the Raiders rode the high of playing in a brand new stadium by surprising the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football. The 34-24 underdog victory puts the Raiders on the map, even though they’ll have to compete (and probably fall short) against the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs for a top spot in the AFC West. Las Vegas’ Super Bowl odds fell by a third from +6000 (21st-shortest) to +4000 (18th-shortest).

Derek Carr’s play has been impressive, tallying four touchdowns and zero interceptions. He has only made it through the first two games of a season with as many TDs and as little INTs twice in his career, one instance being when the Raiders finished 13-3. I’m not saying that’s the direction this team is headed, especially since its next three opponents are the Patriots, Bills, and Chiefs. But this Vegas side is definitely capable of sneaking into a Wild Card spot.

Green Bay Packers (2-0, +1600)

Through two weeks, the Packers are the highest scoring team in the league. Starting off the season with two 40+ team totals will undoubtedly cause some eyebrows to raise. Aaron Rodgers has been extremely effective, throwing six scores and no picks. The other Aaron (Jones) maintained his explosive tendencies from last season by finding the endzone three times against the Lions in Week 2. With two division wins under their belt, the Packers’ odds have shrunk from +2500 (12th-shortest) to +1600 (5th-shortest).

If you got the Packers a week earlier, you’re probably feeling great. Though +1600 is still an awesome spot to grab them. With the non-threatening Vikings and the never-threatening Lions falling behind, it’s only a matter of time until the Packers pull away from the barely-passing Bears and claim the NFC North. And while it’s still so early, a win this week against the Saints would go a long way in the fight for a bye in the playoffs.

Seattle Seahawks (2-0, +1200)

The Seahawks were one yard away from not being featured here this week. Fortunately for its defensive front correctly predicting one of the most predictable plays, Seattle stopped Cam Newton and the Patriots on the final play of Sunday Night Football to win 35-30 and advance to 2-0. Even if they had lost that game, it would still be hard to ignore the unreal talent that is Russell Wilson.

We all want Russ to cook. It is much more fun to watch. For two weeks, he’s been in the kitchen whipping up wins and adding his final touch(downs - nine of them to be exact) to each meal, and as a result, the Seahawks’ odds have shortened from +1600 (5th-shortest) to +1200 (4th-shortest). In the coming weeks, Wilson could solidify his spot in the MVP discussion as Seattle face some pass-friendly teams in the Cowboys, Dolphins, Vikings, and Cardinals. Don’t be surprised if you continue to see the Hawks in this article again.
