Packers list Davante Adams as doubtful for Sunday night vs. Saints

Friday end of day update: The Packers have formally announced Adams is doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Saints. This designation means he has a 25 percent or less chance of playing.

Friday p.m. update: Packers coach Matt LeFleur says he will give Adams the rest of the week, but considers him “doubtful” to play in Week 3 against the Saints, per Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Friday a.m. update: Adams was seen on the sidelines with the rehab group at Packers practice Friday, but doesn’t look like he’ll practice, per The Athletic’s Matt Schneiderman. We will get more clarity later in the day when official injury reports come out, but this appears to be a situation to avoid this week. Marques Valdez-Scantling, Allen Lazard and Aaron Jones are due to see an uptick in targets.

Thursday update: Adams again missed practice due to his hamstring injury. He told the Packers’ team website that “It’s too early to tell. It’s feeling better. I think we’re making good progress every day. But we’re just going to wait it out and see.” The Packers will be careful with their best receiver, especially with an injury that could pop back up in the game, so have other options available since the Packers play the Saints on Sunday Night Football.

Wednesday update: Adams will not practice on Wednesday, per NFL Network’s Stacey Dales. His absence for Wednesday was likely after straining his hamstring in Week 2.

In Week 2 against the Detroit Lions, Packers wide receiver Davante Adams was forced to the sideline twice due to injuries. It appears his hamstring injury is the most impactful, but is considered minor, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. But, his status is still uncertain this week when they host the New Orleans Saints on Sunday Night Football.

If he is held out, Allen Lazard and Marques Valdez-Scantling would likely see an uptick in work, but Aaron Jones would be another name to watch, as he did see more targets when Adams was out last season.

The Packers are currently -3.5 point underdogs against the Saints in New Orleans and with the importance of Adams to the team, I could see that line moving slightly if Adams isn’t available.

If he ends up as a game-time decision, you may need to grab another receiver from this game or the Chiefs-Ravens game on Monday night. With two games sporting high-powered offenses, there should be a useful player hanging out on the free agency list.
