The Denver Broncos plans for a two-headed rushing beast have taken a hit in the early part of the 2020 season. Running back Phillip Lindsay suffered a toe sprain in Week 1 Monday Night Football, and is now expected to miss two to four weeks, according to Ian Rapoport.
Lindsay was added to the team’s MNF injury report in the third quarter and did not return. He had rushed seven times for 24 yards and caught an 11-yard reception at the time of the injury. Melvin Gordon carried the workload the rest of the way, finishing with 15 rushes for 78 yards and a touchdown and three receptions for eight yards. Royce Freeman added one carry for zero yards and a 12-yard reception.
Fantasy football impact: RB Phillip Lindsay injury
Gordon was always going to be the lead guy in this backfield, but the question now is how much work Royce Freeman will take away from him. Freeman was clear second fiddle to Lindsay each of the past two years. Gordon gets a boost without Lindsay available to take carries, but it’s tough to tell how much work Freeman will get in Lindsay’s place. It likely won’t be as much work, but he’ll get some of it.
