The Los Angeles Lakers bunk the trend of losing Game 1 in dominating fashion. The Lakers beat up on the Denver Nuggets 126-114 on Friday night to start off the Western Conference Finals. Anthony Davis was too much for the Nuggets to handle, scoring 37 points to lead everyone in the contest. What was viewed as a potentially low-scoring affair between two decent defensive teams, that got thrown out the window pretty early on. Should we expect more defense in Game 2? Or will offense be the theme for the WCF in 2020.

We were on the under in Game 1 and that ruined our night. I don’t think that was just a fluke, though. Defensive adjustments may be made but will it be enough to drive the score down that much? I don’t think so. We saw 240 points scored in Game 1, both teams shot around 50% and both teams combined for 15 missed free throws. I think the Lakers have just kicked it into another gear and if that’s the case, the Nuggets will need to push the pace to keep up. Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray only combined for 42 points and Denver still put up 114. This number should only go up leading up to tip-off.
