What to do with James Conner, Benny Snell in Week 2 fantasy football

James Conner appears healthy enough to return on Sunday, but what will it mean for Benny Snell?

Game day update: The Steelers culd split carries between James Conner and Benny Snell in Week 2, according to Ian Rapoport. Rapoport reported “my understanding is ... they are expected to split carries.”

James Conner left the Pittsburgh Steelers’ opening game against the New York Giants on Monday night with an injury, paving the way for quite a performance for backup Benny Snell. The second-year back took advantage, and it could lead to more playing time as he reached the 100-yard rushing mark for the first time in his career.

Fantasy Football analysis: Steelers RBs James Conner, Benny Snell Jr.

Conner left Monday’s game in the second quarter and never returned after rushing for nine yards on six carries. He also caught two passes for eight yards. Snell entered the game and took advantage of his 19 carries and gained 113 yards to lead the Steelers.

Conner was a full participant in practice Thursday and is no longer on the team’s injury report, so he appears to be healthy enough to play on Sunday but how effective he will be and if the Steelers plan to rush him back are the questions that need answered.

It’s unlikely Snell takes over Conner’s bell cow role but if nothing else, Snell’s performance should give the Pittsburgh coaching staff reason to give him more opportunities. He proved to be a solid back when the team relied on him.

The Steelers have a matchup with the Denver Broncos, which allowed 116 yards on 31 carries to Tennessee Titans’ workhorse Derrick Henry on Monday night.

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

Conner is a bit of a risk but can be used as a running back No. 2. Snell should be out of fantasy lineups in standard leagues, but he’s a player fantasy owners should keep an eye on.
