How and what to watch for Louisiana vs. Georgia State

Louisiana is coming off one of the biggest upsets of the young 2020 college football season. Will the Ragin’ Cajuns have a big-win hangover?

NCAA Football: UL Lafayette at Iowa State Reese Strickland-USA TODAY Sports

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns are coming off one of the biggest upsets of the weekend, defeating Iowa State 31-14 despite coming in as double-digit underdogs. Now ULL is a heavy favorite against the Georgia State Panthers on Saturday, Sept. 19.

Georgia State is playing their first game of 2020 after being an average team in the Sun Belt last season. Redshirt freshman Cornelious Brown will take over as the team’s starting quarterback after preserving his freshman year in 2020 by appearing in only four games, completing 11 of 28 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown.

The Cajuns would be wise to not overlook Georgia State after a huge win over a ranked Big 12 team. Louisiana’s offense didn’t look great in its performance against Iowa State, and it was helped by a pair of return touchdowns. A team cannot rely on that each week. Levi Lewis threw for 154 yards and 78 of them came on a touchdown pass to Peter LeBlanc. Running back Elijah Mitchell was limited against the Cyclones with only eight carries.

Louisiana is 4-0 all-time against Georgia State, and defeated the Panthers 36-22 in 2018.

Game Time/TV Channel/Streaming

Saturday’s game will start at noon ET at Center Parc Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The game will be aired on the ESPN2.

Point Spread, Totals, Odds, Trends

Point spread: Louisiana (-17) vs. Georgia State
Point Total: O/U 59.5 (-110)
Money line: Louisiana (-910), Georgia Tech (+575)

  • Louisiana is 12-6 against the spread in its last 18 games.
  • The under hit in eight of Louisiana’s last 10 games.
  • Georgia State finished last season 7-6 straight up with an Arizona Bowl loss to Wyoming.
  • Georgia State finished 6-5-2 against the spread in 2019.

The Best Bet

Billy Napier is likely to be one of the hottest coaches potentially on the market depending on how the coaching carousel unfolds, and let’s have confidence in he and the offense understanding they need to be better. Lewis certainly didn’t have his best game on Saturday, and Mitchell was banged up. With two of Louisiana’s top play makers not doing a whole lot, the Ragin’ Cajuns were still able to beat a ranked Big 12 team by 17 points. They can do it again against Georgia State.

Pick: Louisiana -17
