Breaking down the most popular winning and losing picks of Week 1 in the Pro Football Pick ‘Em National Championship

The new-look Patriots remain a popular play with Cam Newton at QB.

Week 1 of the 2020 NFL season is in the book, and hopefully your picks turned out better than mine. I finished last week 8-7-1 against the spread, although I did go 4-1 on best bets, so I’ve got that going for me!

The DraftKings Pro Football Pick ‘Em National Championship is underway, and we had 17 people finish a perfect 5 for 5 with their picks. That comes out of a total of 689 entries. Here’s a look at the early leaderboard.

We’ve got an early look at some of the more popular winners and losers from Week 1, and the top three on each side broke down as follows:

Most popular winners

1. New England Patriots — 158
2. Buffalo Bills — 152
3. Cincinnati Bengals — 145

I think the Patriots were a bit undervalued coming into Week 1, and I suppose it’s reasonable. Cam Newton has been injured much of the past two seasons, and we didn’t know what to expect from him. He looked solid, although the passing game was fairly limited. The degree of difficulty increases considerably in Week 2 as the Patriots head west to face the Seahawks. I doubt I’ll ride with New England in that one, but the game will tell us plenty more about what to make of them.

Most popular losers

1. Carolina Panthers — 189
2. Tennessee Titans — 152
3. Indianapolis Colts — 116

I suppose you can’t really blame people for picking the Panthers at home against the Raiders. I wasn’t sold on Las Vegas coming into the season, and while I’m still not sure what to make of them, they took care of business on the road. The Panthers head to Tampa Bay next week, and I’m currently on a “Fade the Bucs” plan of attack. Tom Brady & Co. could very well get it together soon, but I’m inclined to fade the heavy public support for the Bucs.
