The Stanley Cup Final is almost upon us! The postseason began in early August with the qualifying round and round-robin play, and we’re not sorting out the final two teams competing for Lord Stanley’s Cup.
The Dallas Stars are the first team to advance to the final round of the playoffs. They beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 in overtime to clinch the Western Conference Finals series in five games. This marks Dallas’ third trip to the Stanley Cup Final since the team relocated from Minneapolis in 1993. Dallas won the Stanley Cup in 1999 when they beat the Buffalo Sabres in six games. A year later, they lost to the New Jersey Devils in six games.
The Stars will face the Tampa Bay Lightning, who clinched their berth on Thursday evening. They beat the New York Islanders 2-1 in overtime to win the series in six games. This is the organization’s third trip to the Stanley Cup Final. In the 2003-04 season, they won the Cup with a 4-3 series win over the Calgary Flames. In the 2014-15 season, they lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in six games.
