UPDATE: The Giants have made it official. Golden Tate is inactive.
New York Giants wideout Golden Tate won’t be playing in his team’s 2020 season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday. He’s been ruled out with a hamstring injury, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. Tate is being held out as a precautionary measure so he’s not affected by his injury throughout the year, and it could have a significant impact on how other Giants pass catchers perform.
Fantasy football analysis: Giants WRs Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton
Shepherd stood out as the top receiver at camp and led the team with receptions (57) in 2019 despite missing six games. He’s kicking off the year with a clean bill of health, but could be challenged by a Steelers team that gave up the third fewest passing yards per game last season. Slayton played more games (14) than any of the Giants’ main receivers and led the way in receiving yards (740) and touchdowns (8), but he should return to being a secondary option behind Shepard. Shepard and tight end Evan Engram could get a boost in targets with Tate out. Both are safer fantasy options than Slayton.
