What Week 1 tells us about Buccaneers running backs in fantasy football

Ronald Jones is proving that he deserves to start over Leonard Fournette, but how long can he last as a feature back?

The highly-anticipated matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints ended in a 34-23 win for the Saints on Sunday. The Buccaneers stuck with Ronald Jones as their feature back following the acquisition of Leonard Fournette, and he had a decent outing against New Orleans’ elite defensive line. Will Fournette begin to take touches from Jones as soon as next week? We’ll discuss his fantasy football upside here.

Fantasy football analysis: Buccaneers RBs Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette

Jones converted his game-high 17 carries into 66 rushing yards while also hauling in two passes for 16 yards. He edged out Fournette, who tallied five rushing yards on five carries, in snaps by a wide margin. Both could be more of a factor against the New York Jets’ porous defensive line next Sunday, but Jones knows the offense and has built chemistry with the personnel in Tampa Bay.

Week 2 recommendation

Start Jones. Fournette is far from being an impact player given his limited time with the team.
