What Week 1 tells us about Bears running backs in fantasy football

We go over the fantasy football potential of David Montgomery and Tarik Cohen ahead of Week 2.

The Chicago Bears came back from a considerable deficit to top the Detroit Lions their season opener on Monday and had both their best running backs available. David Montgomery suited up after being listed as questionable earlier in the week because of a groin injury. He was spelled by Tarik Cohen at times, but assumed his usual workload. We’ll go over the fantasy football upside of each back here.

Fantasy football analysis: Bears RBs David Montgomery and Tarik Cohen

Montgomery notched 13 carries for 64 yards against the Lions. While he wasn’t on a pitch count, he eclipsed that mark nine times in 2019. It’s unclear if the Bears were being cautious with him, but his touches should go up if he’s used the like he was last year. Cohen got seven carries of his own for 41 yards and caught two passes for six yards. This could be a sign that Cohen could be in for a bounce back year, as he only recorded more than five carries in a game four times last season. Cohen won’t get Montgomery’s value, but has big-play potential because of his PPR upside and speed.

Week 2 recommendation

Montgomery is a solid RB2 in season-long fantasy while Cohen is more of a flex/punt play that could pay off in DFS.
