11:30 a.m. update: David Montgomery is ACTIVE as expected. He will start, and is a solid RB2 with upside.
Game day update: David Montgomery is expected to play on Sunday and “should receive his full workload,” according to Ian Rapoport. Tarik Cohen will get the bulk of the pass-catching work, but Montgomery is a solid start against the Lions in Week 1 if eventually active.
The Chicago Bears listed running back David Montgomery as questionable on the Friday injury report. He was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice but was a full participant in back-to-back days despite receiving a questionable status.
Montgomery is coming into the 2020 NFL season likely to split time with Tarik Cohen in the Chicago backfield. Montgomery will likely see the bulk of the carries throughout the season as he did last year. He rushed for 889 yards with six touchdowns and capped off his season with a 23-carry, 113-yard performance with a touchdown. It’s unlikely Montgomery will see that type of volume on a consistent basis, but he will see plenty of carries for the Bears this fall.
Fantasy impact: Montgomery appears likely to play, but it’s unknown how much the groin injury could bother him. It would be difficult to start Montgomery with any confidence on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. He is a low-tier flex option at best when considering the injury.
