What to do with Colts WR Parris Campbell in Week 1 fantasy football

Indianapolis’ speed threat from the slot has the chance to make some big plays this week.

The Indianapolis Colts will have wide receiver Parris Campbell in the mix for their season opener this week after the second-year player was cleared from the league’s concussion protocol for injuries he sustained in a car accident at the end of last month. Campbell returned to practice on Tuesday. His blazing 4.31 speed makes him an attractive option for fantasy lineups this week against the Jaguars.

Fantasy Football Analysis, Indianapolis Colts WR Parris Campbell

Unless you follow the Colts closely, you may not recall much from Campbell’s rookie season. Held back by injuries, he played in just seven games, getting three starts thanks to other receivers dealing with injuries. But the second-round pick in 2019 has a distinct role to play with this year’s team as a speed threat working out of the slot. Campbell is a popular pick to have a breakout season in 2020 because he’s got the kind of rare speed that creates mismatches and burns defensive backs. There’s also T.Y. Hilton’s recent injury history—he’s already dealt with a hamstring issue in training camp—that could force Campbell (and rookie Michael Pittman) into a much larger role.

The question for this week’s game is whether or not the Colts can feed all of their offensive skill players against a Jacksonville team that’s a big underdog. It has the makings of a game where the Colts can get an early lead and control the clock with their stable of running backs in the second half. However, head coach Frank Reich will almost certainly find a way to get Campbell a few touches this week. He’s just too fast to leave out of the game plan. which makes him a sneaky flex play.
