Who knew this time last year that Ryan Tannehill was on the verge of a career renaissance with the Tennessee Titans? One of the more pleasant surprises of 2019, the former Dolphins proved that sometimes a change of scenery really can do wonders. The question now is whether or not he can keep that up. The Titans certainly think so, laying out $118 million to underscore that belief. Without a doubt he’s a player who now finds himself in plenty of fantasy lineups.

Fantasy Football analysis: Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill

The Titans open the season against the Denver Broncos this week. It’s a fitting matchup since it was in the third quarter of a Week 6 shutout loss to the Broncos when Tannehill took over the starting job from Marcus Mariota last season. Despite his success in 10 starts (just one game without multiple touchdowns and more than one interception) there’s a tendency to overlook him in fantasy leagues. And, sure, he’s not on the same scoring level as Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes, but he has the makings of being a reliable every-week starter if you don’t have the luxury of playing one of those elite top-tier type signal callers.

Predicting the first week of the season is always tough, but we have enough to go on from last year to believe that the Titans can score points against the Broncos this week. Tennessee’s offense starts with Derrick Henry, but the kind of pressure he puts on a defense as a running back helps open up more passing opportunities for Tannehill. He’ll have a steady No. 1 receiver in A.J. Brown. Behind him is Corey Davis, who has some upside as a big play threat, and a steady tight end in Jonnu Smith.

The projected total on this game is 41 points, which feels like it could be a little low considering the Broncos offense has a lot more weapons this season. In other words, this could turn into a high-scoring affair.
