Rams head coach Sean McVay does not hide his satisfaction with a running back committee. In fact, I personally think he loves it. Not to confuse us fantasy footballers, but because he sees it as a schematic advantage. However, we need to set aside the Xs and Os and answer the question of whether or not Rams running back Cam Akers is a viable option for your fantasy team this week.
Fantasy Football analysis: Los Angeles Rams, RB, Cam Akers
A second-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft, the Florida State product managed to produce despite a sub-par team around him for three seasons in college. He also has some receiving chops, which makes him a valuable asset in McVay’s offense ... eventually.
Unfortunately for Akers, he’s still listed as the third running back on the Rams depth chart, behind Malcolm Brown and Darrell Henderson. And while Henderson has been dealing with a hamstring injury, the team has expressed some confidence that he will be able to suit up for the opener against Dallas. Brown will get the start though, and all three running backs could very well get some work.
Akers has all the upside, and his time should come later this season. For now, you had better avoid the Rams running back situation entirely.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Sit Cam Akers.
