Best Week 1 daily fantasy football quarterback plays under $6000

The 2020 NFL season is underway. Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson got off to solid starts in the season opener between the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans on Thursday, and both are expected to be top notch fantasy quarterbacks this year.

Mahomes and Watson will likely be expensive when it comes to DFS this season because of their high ceilings. There are other signal callers who could but up impressive numbers and save you salary elsewhere. We’ll go over some of the best value quarterback plays under $6,000 on DraftKings in Sunday’s 12-game main slate here.

Derek Carr ($5,900), Las Vegas Raiders vs. Carolina Panthers

Carr is coming off a career year and will face a Carolina Panthers team that basically began rebuilding its entire defense over the offseason following the retirement of Luke Kuechly. Darren Waller was one of the most productive tight ends in the NFL last season and should continue to be an important part of Oakland’s offense moving forward. Rookie wideout Henry Ruggs III has Tyreek Hill speed that gives him plenty of big-play ability, and Bryan Edwards has gotten rave reviews that suggest he could be a hidden gem with major fantasy upside. That talented group can combine well with Josh Jacobs, who is expected to start contributing as a receiver out the backfield in his sophomore season. Las Vegas has the tools to make things difficult for Carolina’s young defense.

Jimmy Garoppolo ($5,800), San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals

Garoppolo isn’t going to put up numbers that wow you throughout the season because of his team’s run-first mentality, but he’s good for an occasional monster game here and there. He crushed the Arizona Cardinals in 2019 eclipsed 30 DKFP in both meetings against them. He totaled eight touchdown passes and threw for 741 yards. Arizona added the top linebacker in the 2020 draft class in Isaiah Simmons over the offseason, but he can only do so much to fix the Cardinals’ problems.

Gardner Minshew II ($5,800), Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Indianapolis Colts

It appears like Minshew could be throwing the ball quite a bit this season. Jacksonville cut Leonard Fournette, put Ryquell Armstead on the Covid-19 list, and placed Devine Ogzibo on injured reserve ahead of Week 1, so the running back position is shaky. James Robinson is slotted to get the start in the backfield, but the Jaguars seem more invested in their receiving corps. Minshew connected well with D.J. Chark Jr. as a rookie and added the versatile and physical Laviska Shenault Jr. to his arsenal over the offseason. The signal caller has the keys to the offense with Nick Foles out of the picture and will likely air it out while playing from behind for most of the year.
