Chiefs-Texans gets over the point total thanks to late field goal

The Chiefs and Texans looked like they were going under, but Kansas City got a big late score.

The Kansas City Chiefs looked impressive in their 2020 debut and might just be ready to repeat as Super Bowl champs. The Houston Texans struggled most of the night, failing to get much going on offense, struggling in pass protection, and not having many answers for the Chiefs potent offense.

But none of that matter in the end of the Chiefs 34-20 victory. All that mattered was the point total, as it went over most of the available numbers when Harrison Butker kicked a field goal in the final minute.

The point total sat right around 54 at DraftKings Sportsbook for much of the week, but came down to 53.5 by kickoff. If you grabbed the game early, you came up short. If you waited out the early money, you scored big on this one.

The game struggled early on before David Johnson showed life and ran in the first score of the game to give Houston a 7-0 lead. However, that was the highlight of the game for the Texans. Kansas City tied the game early in the second quarter on a Patrick Mahomes-Travis Kelce touchdown connection, and proceeded to score 31 unanswered points.

The Texans added a pair of scores to cut the lead to 31-20 with 2:38 to go in the fourth quarter, and looked like they might have a shot at covering the 9.5 point spread. However, they failed to recover the ensuing onside kick and Armani Watts picked up 28 yards on the return. It set KC up at the Texans 20 and they wasted no time moving the ball. Clyde Edwards-Helaire picked up four yards and then 14 more to set up 1st and goal at the 2.

Edwards-Helaire was stopped on three straight goal lines, extending a night’s worth of goal line woes for the rookie in an otherwise phenomenal debut. However, rather than run one more time and potentially turn the ball over on downs, head coach Andy Reid sent out Harrison Butker to kick a field goal and secure a 14-point lead. It was enough and we got the over on the point total.

Congrats or condolences depending on your bet of choice.
