It wasn’t a perfect performance, but the Miami Hurricanes opened FBS football for the ACC with a 31-14 win over the UAB Blazers on Thursday night in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Hurricanes senior quarterback D’Eriq King extended his FBS record streak of 16 consecutive games with a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown. The Houston transfer finished 15/23 for 141 yards and the lone TD pass, and added 12 carries for 83 yards and a rushing score.
UM running back Cam’Ron Harris had 17 carries for 134 yards and two touchdowns, but took a tough hit in the fourth quarter that saw him miss the rest of the game.
UAB was held to just 4.7 yards per play, and starting quarterback Tyler Johnston III was 15/24 for 150 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Myron Mitchell starred in the loss, with eight catches for 117 yards. But the Blazers were unable to get anything going on the ground, with 26 carries for 80 yards.
The spread on this one varied between Miami -13.5 and -16 all week, with it closer to the higher number at kickoff. But the 17-point victory means all The U backers will go home victorious. Over bettors weren’t as lucky, as the number that was between 54 and 55 didn’t get close as neither team scored in the fourth quarter.
