The NHL is starting to wrap up the second round of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs, and we are starting to get a handle on what the conference finals will look like. One team has advanced, and the remaining three series have one team with three wins and on the verge of clinching.
The Tampa Bay Lightning are the first team to advance to the conference finals. They will face either the New York Islanders or Philadelphia Flyers in the Eastern Conference finals in Toronto. The Islanders currently lead the Flyers 3-1 in the series. This is the Lightning’s sixth trip to the conference finals since entering the league as an expansion team in 1992. They’ve twice advanced out of the conference finals round, winning the Stanley Cup in 2004 and losing in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2015.
We’ll provide updates as each of the remaining three spots in the conference finals are settled. Once the bracket is set, the NHL will announce game dates and times, as well as the complete TV schedule. You can view the fully updated Stanley Cup Playoffs bracket here as the tournament moves along.
UPDATE: The Dallas Stars beat the Colorado Avalanche in overtime of Game 7 to advance to the conference finals. This is Dallas’ fifth trip to the conference finals since relocating from Minnesota. They’ve twice advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals in that time.
UPDATE: The Vegas Golden Knights beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-0 in Game 7 to advance to the conference finals. This is Vegas’ second trip to the conference finals in their three seasons as a franchise. They advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals in their first year as an expansion team.
