What Sunday means for NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs bracket

The NHL wraps up the qualifying round and round robin play Sunday. We break down what it means for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Capitals-Bruins update: Washington won 2-1, holding off a late charge by Boston. The Capitals will be the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference, and the Bruins will be the No. 4 seed.

Stars-Blues update: Dallas won 2-1 in a shootout following overtime. The Stars will be the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference, and the Blues will be the No. 4 seed.

Blue Jackets-Maple Leafs update: Columbus shut out Toronto 3-0 to advance from the qualifying round. Columbus will face the second-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The NHL is wrapping up the qualifying round and round robin play on Sunday, after which we’ll have a full look at the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs bracket. Most of it is clear at this point, but Sunday’s three-game schedule will finalize things. Sunday’s schedule features two round robin matchups and one qualifying round Game 5.

The Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals face off at noon ET. The winner will be the No. 3 seed in the bracket and face the No. 6 seed New York Islanders in the first round. The loser will be the No. 4 seed and face the No. 5 seed Carolina Hurricanes.

The Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues face off at 3 p.m. The winner will be the No. 3 seed in the bracket and face the No. 6 seed Calgary Flames in the first round. The loser will be the No. 4 seed and face the No. 5 seed Vancouver Canucks.

The Columbus Blue Jackets and Toronto Maple Leafs face off at 8 p.m. The winner claims the No. 7 seed and will face the No. 2 seed Tampa Bay Lightning, while the loser heads to the draft lottery.
