Best lineup strategy for Pelicans vs. Kings NBA Showdown

We break down Thursday’s Showdown contest between New Orleans and Sacramento on DraftKings.

The New Orleans Pelicans and Sacramento Kings face off in a game that is off the main slate. So we should see an influx of lineups in the Showdown contest for 1:30 p.m. ET on DraftKings. Here are some picks to help your craft a winning lineup.

Captain’s Picks

Zion Williamson ($12,900)

This price is a little befuddling. So Zion played 25 minutes in the Pelicans’ last game, which was a win. Williamson appears to be fine, scoring 23 points with 7 rebounds and 5 assists for 38.25 DKFP. If we’re getting Williamson to around 25-30 minutes again, then this price is way too low. Even if he gets to 25 minutes again, it’s the Kings front court, Zion should dominate. Leverage will be non-existent here but I think the value is too good.

Fade of the Game

Lonzo Ball ($9,600)

Ball has been pretty awful in the bubble, failing to reach more than 7 assists and double digits points in three straight games. Ball just can’t shoot. It’s that simple. His shot isn’t falling and he isn’t finding ways to facilitate more offense. So his usage has plummeted and all of it is going to Zion, Brandon Ingram and Jrue Holiday. There’s just no reason to pay this price for Ball right now.

Value Picks

JJ Redick ($4,000) — Redick has shot the ball fine from 3 in the bubble at 8-of-19 over three games. In the bubble, the Kings rank 27th in defensive efficiency and are allowing opponents to attempt 34.7 3PT per game. I think we can pencil Redick in for at least 7-8 attempts from downtown and if he makes 2-3 of those, we’re looking at good value.

Cory Joseph ($3,400) — Joseph is serving as the backup PG to De’Aaron Fox and in a lot of instances is playing huge minutes. Joseph played 42 minutes in the OT loss to the Mavericks on Monday. Even when he isn’t playing a ton, Joseph has a safe floor with 18 assists over 3 games in the bubble.
