Tiger’s back! The GOAT of golf depending on who you ask will make the trek to Harding Park in San Francisco for the PGA Championship this week. It’s his first outing since the Memorial three weeks ago, where on a course he knows and loves (a five-time winner there) he failed to break 70. He went 71-76-71-76 to finish +6 at Muirfield Village. And that’s been his only athletic appearance outside of made-for-tv events since Covid-19 ravaged the planet.
DraftKings has announced his daily fantasy price for this weekend’s first major of 2020 as $9,200 if you’d like to have him on your six-golfer roster with a $50,000 salary cap.
So should you pay this much for a guy that hasn’t played well in six months?
Are you crazy?? Heck no!! This is 2020, not 2000. And nobody in this form, not even a guy that has won 15 majors, should be on your roster at that cost.
To be fair, Eldrick Woods knows this course quite well. He grew up in California, went to college not far away at Stanford, and has played very well at the non-regular PGA Tour stop in his two competitive appearances on the muni: He won the WGC American Express event there in 2005, and went 5-0 in the President’s Cup on the course in 2009.
But paying that price for a guy that isn’t in game shape and has struggled with injuries as of late? Don’t think so.
We’ll have Tiger on the TV, as will most golf fans this week. But we’re not wasting one cent of salary cap room on him.
