The 2020 NFL season is just around the corner. We won’t get any preseason games and who knows what kind of issues will arise from Covid-19 opt-outs and positive tests, but for the time being, football is on track to kick off on Thursday, September 10th.

There will be plenty to wager on this season, and daily and traditional fantasy will keep many of us occupied. However, there is another option that will keep you on the edge of your seat each weekend: Survivor!

No, we’re not talking about the long-time reality show. NFL Survivor pools are the latest craze and DraftKings is getting in on the action.

What is a Survivor pool?

If you’ve never taken part in such a pool, it involves picking one team each week that you think will win. If your team wins in Week 1, you can make a pick in Week 2. If your team wins in Week 2, you can make a pick in Week 3, and so on. The catch is that you cannot pick the same team twice. You could use a heavy favorite in Week 1, but you would not have access to them later in the year if you’re alive in the closing weeks.

DraftKings has launched their own version of the contest, and you can join now. The pool starts in Week 1, there is no entry fee, and the grand prize is $1 million to the winner.

How am I eliminated from the pool?

  • The team you pick loses that week
  • You can no longer make a pick based on the teams you have already used.

When are my picks due?

If you want to pick a Thursday or Saturday game, you have to make the selection by kickoff time. If you want to choose any Sunday game or Monday Night Football, you have to make your pick by 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.

How is the winner determined in the DraftKings pool?

  • If at the end of any week, only one entry is alive, that entry is declared the winner.
  • If at the end of Week 17, multiple entries are still alive, all of those entries will split the prize pool evenly.
  • If there are no entries remaining at the end of a day, each entry that was alive prior to the elimination day would split prizes and the contest will end.
