Rookies this season will get a crash course in the NFL with a shortened off season and no preseason games due to Covid-19. Thankfully, this season is full of strong rookie dynasty picks and a slower than normal ramp up to the season won’t be as impactful for their longterm success.
Rookie quarterbacks don’t have a ton of value in 1QB leagues, so you won’t see Joe Burrow or Tua Tagovailoa in my overall Top-10 for redraft, but if this were a 2QB or superflex league, they would have significant value. For dynasty quarterbacks, we usually think for into the future, but gone are the days of first-round quarterbacks sitting on the bench their rookie seasons. Production should be had by the top tier early on.
Tier 1
This one is easy, as Burrow and Tagovailoa are both the top talents of the draft and landed in places where they will start as soon as possible. Plus, both teams showed they are going to put viable pieces around them, as the Bengals grabbed Tee Higgins and the Dolphins stacked up on offensive linemen. Both have the draft capital to get extreme leeway if they start out slow, so you don’t have to worry about them getting stuck behind someone either.
Tier 2
Justin Herbert is the only other quarterback with the draft capital and opportunity to play in year one, making him the clear third quarterback off the board. Unfortunately, I don’t love his ability and worry that he may never be a true franchise quarterback. The good news is that he has good weapons that should help his learning curve and push him to reach his upside.
Tier 3
This tier gives us Jordan Love and Jacob Eason, both players who have some long term upside. Love was a first round pick, which automatically gives him appeal in dynasty leagues and Eason landed in a good spot behind elderly Philip Rivers. Love is behind Aaron Rodgers and should stay behind him for a few years, hurting his value, but that situation does have some room to change if Rodgers and coach Matt LeFleur start having friction.
