The Seattle Seahawks struggled with running back health down the stretch last season and are off to a poor start in 2020. They placed Rashad Penny on the PUP list ahead of camp, according to the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson. The third year running back tore his ACL in Week 14 last season and is working toward making a return to compete for a bigger role in Seattle’s offense.
Adding Penny to the PUP list will help give him time to recover. If the Seahawks didn’t place him on the list ahead of the training camp, they wouldn’t be able to add him to it later in camp. Penny can get back in shape on his on timeline without Seattle having to worry about how to handle his roster spot.
Fantasy football impact
Chris Carson is still the top dog among Seahawks running backs. He led his team with 1,230 rushing yards and seven scores in 2019. He fractured his hip last December but didn’t need surgery over the offseason and is progressing toward a full recovery. He was a top 10 fantasy running back in standard leagues last season.
Seattle added Carlos Hyde as an insurance policy this offseason following his first 1,000 -yard season with the Houston Texans, and drafted DeeJay Dallas in the fourth round this past spring. If Penny is away from the team for an extended period of time, Hyde and Dallas could move up the ladder. Hyde was outside the top 20 among fantasy running backs last year but could benefit from the Seahawks’ struggling health.
