Report: Patriots RB Sony Michel returns to practice

Sony Michel returned to practice on Wednesday. His backup, Damien Harris, has impressed in his absence.

UPDATE 10:45 a.m.: Ian Rapoport is reporting Michel is “officially” off the PUP list.

The New England Patriots welcomed Sony Michel back onto the practice field on Wednesday. The third-year back was recovering from offseason foot surgery, which was considered maintenance, but did keep him out for the first couple weeks of training camp.

Michel hasn’t officially been removed from the PUP list just yet, but this is a good sign that he will be. Undoubtedly, he will be eased back as he gets up to speed. While Michel was out, second-year running back Damien Harris was able to impress in camp, garnering praise from onlookers while running with the first team. NBC Sports’ Greg Bedard believes Harris is an upgrade over Michel and after Michel’s poor 2019, there’s no doubt Harris could win the job over the incumbent.

For fantasy, we likely need to prioritize Harris in drafts until we see Michel fully in on padded practices and running with the first team over Harris. I don’t think that is going to happen, but Harris will need to keep playing at the high level he has so far in camp.
