Best lineup strategy for Mavericks vs. Clippers Game 5 NBA Showdown

We go over the top Showdown strategy for Monday’s first-round matchup between Dallas and Los Angeles.

It’s going to be hard to top Game 4. I’d rather just run that replay back for the rest of the playoffs, but we’ve got to move on. Thus is life. So the Dallas Mavericks evened the series at 2-2 after Luka Doncic’s insane game-winner in OT to beat the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 4. Hopefully, the two teams can bottle that excitement and give us another thriller. The big question mark heading into Game 5 is whether Kristaps Porzingis (knee) will give it a go. Let’s take a look at some DraftKings Showdown picks for the contest, which locks at 9:00 p.m. ET.

Set your DraftKings lineup here.

Captain’s Pick

Paul George ($13,800)

Pandemic P. Playoff P. Whatever you want to call Paul George right now, he’s still Paul George. He’s having a miserable series for the Clippers. His shooting has been the main issue. If that’s the only thing we need to worry about, I feel like something’s gotta give. I mean, if you look at Game 3, George came close to posting a triple-double. Everybody seemed to focus on his scoring. There’s just no way he shoots this bad four games in a row. If lineups continue to worry about PG’s shooting, we can get leverage on a play that has a 50-60 point ceiling.

Fade of the Game

Maxi Kleber ($4,600)

Kleber hasn’t made a 3-pointer since Game 1. That’s an 0-for-11 stretch from the starting center. Even with Porzingis out, Kleber’s value didn’t budge. He couldn’t hit a shot. If Porzingis is out again, sure, Kleber may have some value. I’m not going to go and risk it with how he’s shooting the ball. If Porzingis returns, I want nothing to do with Kleber. I’ll look elsewhere for value.

Value Picks

Montrezl Harrell ($4,200) — Like George, it’s only a matter of time before the Clippers are forced to just unleash Harrell. Doc Rivers just has to start giving him more minutes if the Clippers want to win this series. Harrell seems like the type of player who can really exploit the Mavericks’ lack of physical play in the post. Expect Harrell to maybe get some more minutes in Game 5 and be more aggressive on offense.

Landry Shamet ($3,200) — We liked Shamet in Game 4 and Doc Rivers opted to play Reggie Jackson. How’d that work out on the final possession? Exactly. Shamet is a better defender, not by much, but he’s better. Jackson is an OK value play starting for Patrick Beverley, but I still think we see plenty of Shamet in Game 5.
