It’s a catchweight battle that’s taken a bit to put together at the UFC Apex facility on Saturday, but a pair of promotion rookies make their debut as Timur Valiev faces Trevin Jones at 140 lbs.

Valiev was originally scheduled to fight Mark Striegl here, but pulled out for unknown reasons. Jones steps in as a last-minute replacement, and he successfully made weight at 139.5 his second time on the scale.

Valiev is 16-2 from the fighting capital of Dagestan, Russia, and has seven career stoppages. He’s won five straight in the Professional Fighting League and Global Fighting Championship, but hasn’t competed since a unanimous decision win over Taigro Costa in December of 2019.

Jones takes the short notice fight, and is from Tamuning, Guam. He’s 12-6 in his MMA career with six finish victories, but hasn’t competed since May of 2019, a rear-naked choke of Takafumi Otsuka in the Japanese promotion Deep. The 30-year-old made his professional debut in April of 2011.
