With the Big Ten and Pac-12 withdrawing from the fall 2020 college football season, there are many people that have bet on who will win the national championship that need a refund.
Two of the top three teams in terms of handle at DraftKings Sportsbook, Penn State and Ohio State, now won’t compete in the fall of 2020 and won’t participate in the College Football Playoff. And that leaves the two dynasty programs of the decade as the shortest on price, but with wildly different bets placed on them so far.
Clemson is the public champ so far, getting 35% of tickets and 19% of handle so far, while Alabama having gone a full two (2) seasons without a natty is getting dissed. Despite having the #1 overall recruiting ranking over the five-year sample, Nick Saban, The Process, and a support staff that needs its own 787 to fly to road games, the Crimson Tide are getting just 5% of handle and 6% of the cash wagered.
For a team that’s -143 to win the SEC, that doesn’t really add up. And especially with no Ohio State to contend with it’s probably much better value to take ‘Bama to win it all over just winning in Atlanta.
