UPDATE, Aug 4: The Jaguars announced they are activating Gardner Minshew and Andrew Wingard from the Covid-19 injury list.
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced on Sunday that they have placed quarterback Gardner Minshew II on the Covid-19 injured reserve list. The team also placed RB Ryquell Armstead, TE Charles Jones, WR Michael Walker, and S Andrew Wingard on the Covid IR.
Minshew is the second notable QB to go on Covid IR, joining Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford. The Covid IR list was created for players who either test positive for Covid-19 or have been in close contact with an infected person. They must pass through testing protocol before returning, with the latter potentially getting back quicker than the former. The team is not allowed to comment on the specifics of a given player’s situation, other than referencing their roster status.
Minshew entered camp the favorite to claim the starting job after the team dealt away Nick Foles in the offseason. Mike Glennon, Joshua Dobbs, and Jake Luton make up the remainder of the Jaguars quarterback depth chart. The team can sign another quarterback if they are concerned Minshew faces an extended absence.
