The Pittsburgh Steelers released news on ten roster moves on Sunday, and the most significant involve the team’s Covid-19 injured reserve list. The team announced it is placing running back Jaylen Samuels and wide receiver James Washington on the Covid IR.
The Covid IR list was created for players who either test positive for Covid-19 or have been in close contact with an infected person. They must pass through testing protocol before returning, with the latter potentially getting back quicker than the former. The team is not allowed to comment on the specifics of a given player’s situation, other than referencing their roster status.
This news does not drastically change the draft status of Samuels or Washington. Samuels is firmly behind James Conner on the Steelers running back depth chart and holds most of his value in PPR leagues. He finished last season with 47 receptions, which was good for second on the team.
Washington led the Steelers in receiver yards last year, but is behind JuJu Smith-Schuster and Diontae Johnson on the depth chart. He has a solid floor, but a fairly limited ceiling, and will be a late round pick at best in smaller leagues.
