UPDATE 5:25 p.m.: Takashi Sato has been scratched from the card by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, though a reason hasn’t been given. Since Dwight Grant also had his fight scratched, he’ll now fight Rodriguez.

Two welterweights with a combined 4-1 mark in the UFC look to work their way towards the Top 15 rankings on Saturday night on ESPN+ as Daniel Rodriguez faces Takashi Sato on the main card live from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Rodriguez is 12-1 as an MMA fighter, and 2-0 in the UFC. He also has a win in Dana White’s Contender Series, and in 23:37 minutes of fight time in the promotion, he’s averaged a whopping 8.60 significant strikes per minute, and 1.94 takedowns per 15 minutes with 83% accuracy. The 33-year-old from California has won eight fights in a row, six of them via stoppage. His last outing was a decision win on May 30th over Gabriel Green, also in the UFC Apex arena.

Sato is on an even quicker turnaround, having defeated Jason Witt in just 48 seconds on June 27th. The Tokyo, Japan product is 2-1 in the UFC and 16-3 overall, with 11 KO’s and two submissions as stoppage wins. In 19:11 of UFC fight time he’s averaged just 3.94 significant strikes per minute and 0.79 takedowns per full fight, but has two finishes as a winner and was submitted by Belal Muhammad last September.
