The Boston Bruins are currently tied 1-1 in their first round Stanley Cup Playoff series with the Carolina Hurricanes, but their degree of difficulty just got more significant. The team announced on Saturday that goalie Tuukka Rask has elected to opt out of the rest of the playoffs.
Rask’s backup is Jaroslav Halak, and they also have Dan Vladar and Maxime Lagace available on their roster. Rask had appeared in four games since the restart, including two round robin games and two first round games. Against Carolina, he’d given up three goals per game, while in the seeding round he had given up 2.5 goals per game. Halak has one start since the return to play, giving up four goals in a round robin loss to Philadelphia.
The Bruins are scheduled to face the Hurricanes on Saturday at noon ET for Game 3 of their first round series.
