There are two featherweights doing battle at UFC 252 this Saturday in Las Vegas, though one will be paying part of his purse to the other for missing weight as TJ Brown takes on Danny Chavez in a preliminary bout. Brown missed weight by just eight ounces, but it will cost him 20% of his purse for the fight which will go to Chavez.
Brown is 14-7 in MMA, and won his way into the promotion via Dana White’s Contender Series last August at age 30. He dropped his first fight on the roster to Jordan Griffin in February. Fighting out of Little Rock, Arkansas, he has 13 stoppages in his 17 wins, nine of them by submission. He had seven takedowns in his bout against Griffin in 13:38 of octagon time, but tapped via guillotine choke despite being ahead on points.
“The Colombian Warrior” Chavez makes his UFC debut with a 10-3 record, coming off three-straight first round finish victories in three different promotions. Fighting out of the MMA Masters gym in South Florida, the 33-year-old won the Global Legion Fighting Championship just 28 days ago in Miami by knocking out Dylan Cala.
