Update August 20: John Ross will return to training camp from the Covid-19 list, but will need to pass his requisite Covid-19 tests, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Garafolo was notified of a Reddit post where a user had recently gotten an autograph from Ross, who told him of his imminent return to the team.
From Inside Training camp on @nflnetwork: A Reddit user with the scoop on #Bengals WR John Ross returning to the team. Ross will be back soon, provided he can pass the requisite tests to get off the COVID-19 list. If he starts testing today, he could be back as soon as Saturday. pic.twitter.com/ZVGOp6HVwH

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross has left training camp to care for his wife and sone, who both tested positive for Covid-19, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Ross wasn’t at camp yesterday and will likely be put on the Reserve/Covid-19 while he is away. A timetable for his return is, of course, unknown.
Ross comes into the 2020 season needing to show well after three seasons marred by injuries. The Bengals drafted Clemson receiver Tee Higgins in the second round and already have A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd locked into roles. Ross did have a mini-breakout last season, as he caught 23 passes for 506 yards and three touchdowns through eight starts. There’s no doubting his speed and ability to beat coverage deep.
Ross’ absence should allow Tee Higgins to see more work with the first team and if he can take advantage, push him ahead of Ross while he is gone. Hopefully all will go well at home for Ross and he and his family get through this infection quickly and soundly. If he can get back to camp in a week or two, he should still have a good chance of starting the season on the field.
