Kamala Harris is Joe Biden’s choice to be Vice President

The junior senator from California will be the Democratic nominee in 2020, and if the ticket wins, the presumptive frontrunner in 2024.

UPDATE: Joe Biden has made it official.

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has selected Kamala Harris to be his running mate this November, according to multiple reports. Biden and Harris will be formally nominated for the ticket at next week’s Democratic National Convention.

The senator from California has been in Washington since the 2017 election, and previous positions include Attorney General of California from 2011-17, and District Attorney of San Francisco from 2004-2011.

This seemed an unlikely choice several months ago, as Harris pointedly questioned her new running mate during one of the first full-field Democratic presidential primary debates.

But that appears to be in the past, and Biden has committed to a woman of color as his fellow nominee, something many in the party were clamoring for with the upcoming election.

This should have a big effect on DraftKings Sportsbook’s $100,000 Presidential election pool where the winners will need to pick the victor in 11 states and of the overall election. Also keep an eye on PredictIt and the individual state polls coming out after this announcement, as it could start to tell us which way swing states will break as we get closer to the election.

As of Tuesday morning, FiveThirtyEight.com had Joe Biden leading Donald Trump 50.1% to 41.9% in national polling, and PredictIt had Biden ahead .57 to .44 to win the general election.
