The NBA has finalized a 22-team field that is set to continue playing this season after the COVID-19 pandemic brought the season to a halt, and San Antonio Spurs’ playoff streak has a chance to continue. San Antonio is 12th in the Western Conference and four games back from the eighth-seeded Memphis Grizzlies. It would have to beat out the New Orleans Pelicans and Portland Trail Blazers as well for a playoff spot. Its chances of accomplishing that have been reduced by a major injury though.
LaMarcus Aldridge suffered a shoulder injury in February and underwent a season-ending surgery this week. His absence will deal a critical blow to the Spurs, as he ranks second in points per game (18.9) and leads the team in rebounds (7.4) and blocks (1.6) per game. DeMar DeRozan is the only other San Antonio player who averages more than 15 points per game this year, so it’s safe to say the team’s offense is likely to struggle.
Lonnie Walker is also dealing with an undisclosed lower leg injury, but the rest of the Spurs roster is relatively healthy ahead of the NBA’s return on July 31. Nevertheless, San Antonio’s playoff and title odds have dropped.

San Antonio’s title odds were at +20000 on DraftKings SportsBook on May 13, now they sit at +50000. It’s odds to make the playoffs are +1300 while its odds to miss the postseason are -10000.
