Major League Soccer restarts its season on Wednesday, July 8th with the MLS Is Back Tournament. They’ve had some scheduling issues due to the pandemic, but Orlando City SC and Inter Miami CF will kick off the tournament at 8 p.m. ET.
DraftKings Sportsbook is offering odds on the upcoming matches, but also on who will win the tournament. The season will continue after the tournament wraps, but the tournament winner will earn the league’s berth in the 2021 Concacaf Champions League.
The Colorado Rapids (+2500) and Philadelphia Union (+1600) are getting the largest percentage of wagers to win the tournament. Although they are longer shots than the likes of Seattle and LAFC, it makes sense for DraftKings. The company operates across much of the country for DFS, but their sportsbook product is a bit more limited. Three states where you can bet at DraftKings are New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Colorado. That would explain those two teams leading in bets placed.
What’s more interesting is that New England tops total money bet on the title. A whopping 22 percent of handle is on the Revolution to win at +2500. Bruce Arena is New England’s head coach and had them playing really well at the end of the year. They’ve got some talent, and people could see them as a worthwhile value at those longer odds.
Here is what the top betting splits look like.
New England Revolution (+2500): 22% handle, 7% bets
Seattle Sounders (+700): 13% handle, 9% bets
San Jose Earthquakes (+2500): 9% handle, 6% bets
Philadelphia Union (+1600): 9% handle, 13% bets
Colorado Rapids (+2500): 7% handle, 13% bets
New York Red Bulls (+1800): 7% handle, 7% bets
Atlanta United FC (+1200): 5% handle, 7% bets
New York City FC (+1100): 5% handle, 4% bets
Inter Miami CF (+4000): 4% handle, 5% bets
Los Angeles FC (+600): 4% handle, 7% bets
